Easter Book-Nic 2017 By: Rochelle Addison

Every year the Community Academic Partners in Service office holds an event called Easter BookNic. Easter BookNic is a family event that is usually held the Saturday before Easter for kids in the community the opportunity to celebrate Easter and it also gives them an opportunity to take a book home. This is a fun spring event that wants to promote reading among children. Books are donated throughout the year to prepare for this annual event. Every year we partner with local restaurants in the community to provide food and churches to support the activities at the event. This year the event was on April 15 at 12 pm at the Sachs Norton Clinic in the city of San Bernardino. The CAPS office came together with HNP, LLUSA, Sachs-Norton Clinic, Azure Hills Church, Redlands Mission Church, Archibald Ranch Church, Korean SDA Church, CKC Music, Alas, Public Health SA, BHPSA, Pathfinder Kids, Children's Fund, and Loma Linda Students and Interest Groups to celebrate Easter at the CAPS Annual Easter Booknic 2017.

This year about 116 children and their families attended our free event, the event provided free books and food. Children participated in book reading stations, playing with animals at a petting zoo, jumping in a bouncy house, Easter egg decorating and many other activities for the family. The Gospel Message of Jesus was shared with students and families and the day ended with prize give-a-ways. 2 large stuffed animal bunnies were raffled off and families were given the opportunity to take bunnies and livestock home. 2 turkeys, 4 hens, and 6 chicks and 2 bunnies were donated. The CAPS office truly enjoys putting on this event and seeing the joy that it brings children in this community. Children love the activities, winning prizes, and the event provides a fun place for children to get excited about reading.
